This invention refers to a variety of bay laurel (Datura innoxia Mill.) named Silvia, obtained by individual selection within the isogenous lines resulted by experimental androgyny from the Laura variety, meant to be cultivated for production of herb and seeds, in all areas favourable for cultivating bay laurel, throughout the country. It has a period of vegetation of 120 days, a height of 84.7...91.4 cm in bloom and 135.2...139.0 cm when matured. The leaves are bright green, slightly undulated, and the flowers have white corolla with the edge shaded in pale violet. The capsules are spherical, between 19...49, holding 367...515 seeds each, 1000 seeds weight 11.7...14.0 g. The Silvia variety has a high content of total alkaloids of 0.277...0.296 g/100 g dry herb and 0.294...0.308 g/100 g seeds and a high content of scopolamine of 0.141...0.177 g/100 g dry herb and 0.159...0.231 g/100 g seeds. The Silvia variety has a good yield, producing 36.8...37.1 q/ha dry herb, 10.2...10.9 kg/ha total alkaloids and 5.2...6.9 kg/ha scopolamine or 15.3...26.8 q/ha seeds, 4.5...9.9 kg/ha total alkaloids and 2.4...7.5 kg/ha scopolamine.
