The tyre inflator comprises a base (1) with a bell cap (26) mounted on it. A vertically movable disc (21) and a horizontal rim (2) each have rubber pads. The wheel rim (4) rests on the first pad (22) and the tyre (3) rests on the second pad (27). The wheel rim is held down by a cylinder (51) via a pusher plug (52). The disc (21) is supported on a compression spring (25). A hinged cage (6) is lowered to surround the tyre. When inflation pressure is introduced to a charging valve (8) it is also introduced into the bell cap ensuring perfect sealing of tyre bead to wheel rim.
