On a crosshead in a two-stroke engine, the vertical distance A from the lower ends 10 of the sliding faces 4 of the crosshead to the crosshead axis 12 is less than the vertical distance B from the crosshead axis 12 to the upper ends 14 of the sliding faces, whereby the crosshead axis 12 becomes downwardly displaced 16 relative to the centre 15 of the sliding faces without the sizes of the latter being changed. At unchanged distance from the lower ends of the guides to the crank with associated means, the connecting rod may thus be shortened corresponding to the displacement 16 of the crosshead axis 12, and thus the constructional height of the engine reduced correspondingly. In one embodiment, the crosshead has guide shoes 1 journalled on a crosshead pin, whereby the bearing 3 for the crosshead pin is displaced 16 from the centre 15 of the guide shoes in parallel with the sliding faces 4. The guide shoe 1 is preferably dividable in a plane 11 perpendicular to the direction of working. In the engine, the distance from the crosshead axis 12 in its lower dead centre to the lower end of the guides on the corresponding cross member may be in the interval from zero to 23 per cent of the extension of the sliding faces 4 of the crosshead. <IMAGE> |
