The present invention refers to processable one part precursors of low-density, fire-retardant epoxy-based compositions comprising at least one epoxide compound with an epoxide functionality of at least 1, at least one epoxide hardener, at least one filler capable of reducing the density of the composition like hollow microspheres or blowing agents, 1 - 20% by weight of one or more heat-expandable graphite flame-retardant agents and 1 - 15% by weight of one or more flame-retardant plasticizers, preferable phosphoric or phosphonic acid esters. Optionally bromine or nitrogen containing or inorganic flame retardant or smoke suppressing agents are also included. The invention furthermore refers to low-density, fire-retardant epoxy-based compositions which are obtainable by thermally curing the precursors and to the use of the precursors and compositions for aerospace applications.
