Disclosed is a method to alarm when a drum unit is in a exchange state within a laser beam printer. The method comprises steps for displaying, number setting and repeating. In the displaying step, the number of printing is compared to a reference number and display a number of the difference. In the number setting step, the number of the difference displayed is updated according to the number of the key input signals. In the repeating step, the number setting step is repeated. Thereby, the exchange time for the drum unit is accurately determined.
