The method involves forming a sequence of K signals received by J sensors into a JxK spatial correlation matrix, R. The weighting coefficients, a, is formed from an aiming vector, theta , by the relationship a = lambda R-1 theta where lambda is the normalisation constant and R-1 is the inverse of the spatial correlation matrix. These waiting factors are then applied to the original signals. Where there are P additional constraints imposed on the shape of the beam, the coefficients are a = R'-1 C (C+ R'-1 C)-1 f where R' is a JxJ matrix defining the adaptation and C and f are respectively a JxP matrix and P-dimensional vector defining the additional constraints and C+ is the transposed conjugate Hermitian of the matrix, C.
