The assembly comprises a femoral piece (2) with two spaced curves (2b) reproducing the femoral condyles, whose surfaces contact bone. The piece has fixtures (15,16) which connect with fixtures (21,25) on an inter-condylar piece (3) comprising a housing (20) which delimits a long cavity (22), open on one side. The inter-condylar piece is placed between the curves, in the anterior-posterior direction. A tibial piece (6) has two plates (4,5) mounted on an upper wall (31) which receive the prosthetic condyles. The plates can be alternatively mounted on the tibial piece. One plate has a medial pin (35) for insertion into the cavity. The pin upper surface (35a) contacts the upper inter-condylar piece when the joint is extended. The pin has a posterior surface (35c) matching the shape of, and contacting, the anterior face of the inter-condylar posterior wall (20c), avoiding posterior sub-luxation of the tibia.
