The mechanism (8) is for driving an output sprocket (16) in one direction of rotation (11) consisting of a pivoting handle (9) elastically held in its neutral position (10). The sprocket (16) is joined to an toothed circular wheel (20) which is driven by a ratchet (26) mounted pivoting on an axis (29) and displaced by the handle (9). This ratchet cooperates with a fixed support (15) to hold it disengaged when the handle is in the rest position (10) or in its second angular sector (14). There are two other ratchets (27,28) mounted on the fixed plate (15) which in the locked position cooperate with the toothed wheel (20) so that it cannot move in either direction (11,13). These ratchets cooperate with a cam (21) operated by the handle (9) for disengaging the first locking ratchet (27) when the handle is in the first angular sector (12) and for disengaging the second locking ratchet (28) when the handle is in its second angular sector (14). This allows the sprocket (16) to be driven in one direction (11) by the handle (9) and to freely return under gravity when released.
