The invention relates to a biodegradable surgical suture which is produced by copolymerizing 25-99,5wt% of an aliphatic polyester monomer and 0.5-75wt% of a p-hydroxy methyl cyclohexyl carboxylate compound. Said polyester monomer is selected from one of glycolide, lactide, beta-propiolactone, gamma-butyrolactone, delta-valerolactone and alpa.alpa-dimethyl.beta-propiolactone. Said p-hydroxy methyl cyclohexyl carboxylate compound is p-hydroxy methyl cyclohexyl carboxylic acid or an polyalkyleneoxide thereof represented by the formula (I), wherin R is C2-C6 alkylene and n is an integer of 4 or higher.
