The connector (10), which enables a reduced space between an automobile (1) and its trailer (2) is constituted by a fixed coupling (11) connected to the vehicle. This coupling engages a movable coupling (12) comprising a shaft (23) connected to the trailer. A plate (20), connected to the trailer, with apertures along a contour (21) forms a first cam (30) having three lobes (31,32,33) which engage with a second elongated cam carried by the shaft. The first elongated trapezoidal lobe (31) has its small base located at the rear plane end (34) of the cam. Its large base defines coupling releases (35,35') relative to the casing curves of the second and third lobes. The second and third lobes are delimited by a support curve and a support casing. The support curves form protuberance (39) separating the second and third lobes.
