The present invention relates generally to insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) and to the identification of a genetic marker useful in determining the susceptibility of an individual of developing same. Individuals identified as being at risk of developing IDDM would become candidates for intervention or early onset treatment to prevent or reduce the effects of clinical IDDM.
