<p>The first invention relates to an epoxidized polyene having either epoxy groups alone or both epoxy groups and hydroxyl groups, charactized in that in the 1H-NMR spectrum, the sum of integrated values (intensities) of signals within the range of 1 to 6 ppm that are assignable to hydrogen atoms on the carbon atoms to which epoxy groups or hydroxyl groups are bonded accounts for 15.5 to 20.0 % of the total integrated value of the whole proton signals. This epoxidized polyene is excellent in compatibility with epoxy resins by virtue of the presence of a specific amount of epoxy groups or a combination of epoxy and hydroxyl groups. The second invention relates to an epoxy resin composition which comprises a mixture comprising 20 to 60 % by weight of an epoxidized polyene prepared by epoxidizing a liquid poly-1,3-diene having at least 50 % of 1,4-linkages and a number-average molecular weight of 1,000 to 30,000 and having an oxirane oxygen content of 6.5 to 13 % by weight and 80 to 40 % by weight of an epoxy resin other than epoxidized polyenes (the total amount of both being 100 % by weight) and a curing agent comprising a phenolic resin. In particular, a composition comprising the specific epoxidized polyene, a bisphenol-type epoxy resin and the curing agent can form a coating film excellent in impact resistance and bending resistance on metallic surfaces or the like. The third invention relates to a composition comprising diepoxidized dicyclopentadiene and a compound having two or more carboxyl groups in the molecule. This composition is excellent in chemical, corrosion, heat and weathering resistances, gloss, and so on, is useful for the production of a powder coating material, and does not irritate the skin in the use thereof.</p> |
