<p>PURPOSE:To reduce the dimensionality of vectors by dividing an inside of a picture element block into plural sub blocks and applying vector quantization for each sub block independently. CONSTITUTION:The unit consists of a picture input section 11, a line buffer 12, an orthogonal conversion section 13, a class classification section 14, a scaler quantizing section 15, a multi-stage quantization section 16 and a code data storage section 17. Then the inside of the picture element block is divided into plural sub blocks and vector quantization is independently applied to each sub block. Thus, the dimensionality of vectors is reduced and the memory capacity is reduced such as lookup table constitution.</p> |
