A golf club shaft made from sheets (20) of carbon fibers (22) in a thermoplastic matrix, is disclosed. Also disclosed is a method of making the shaft using a mandrel (28) and an upper (34) and lower platen (36) applying pressure to the mandrel (28) during a rolling process, and an apparatus for the method of making the shaft of an upper platen (34) with a resilient surface (62) and a lower platen (36) with a surface of a spring biased (60) flexible panel (56) overlying keys (48) which conform to the surface of the mandrel (28), that allows for making a golf club shaft in a substantially voidableness manner. A number of advantages are obtained, including improvement in vibration dampening.
