The platen or roller which carries the ink has a central axis shaft (2). At each end, the shaft is mounted in a ball race bearing (3), supported by the printer housing. Ink flows from a reservoir through an input pipe (11) to an ink chamber (7) and thence onto the surface of the platen. A scraper blade (8) spreads the ink evenly on the surface and removes excess ink. The excess ink leaves the assembly by an output pipe (12). The scraper assembly is attached to the bearing housing (1) by bolts (4, 5). The ink chamber is secured to the scraper assembly by other bolts (9)
