PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate problems such that a void part present in the surface of a sintered compact is clogged with a soft metal or an organic resin film to cause melt sticking or adhesion and further a buildup phenomenon on the surface of a member for working and the life thereof is short when carrying out the plastic working of the soft metal. SOLUTION: This mold material for forming a glass has a glass forming surface thereof comprising a hard carbon film having peaks at 1340±40cm<-1> and 1160±40cm<-1> in a Raman scattering spectrum at 0.05-2 peak intensity ratio represented by H1 /H2 when the strongest peak intensity is H1 in the peaks present at 1160±40cm<-1> and the strongest peal intensity is H2 in the peaks present at 1340±40cm<-1> . Furthermore, the hard carbon film is formed on the surface of a base metal comprising a metal or a sintered compact and an interlayer comprising at least diamond and a metallic carbide is present between the hard carbon film and the base metal.
