PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst having high SOX resistance for treatment of nitrogen oxides in an exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine and in which sulfur compounds also exist by depositing alkaline earth metals and titanium as active components on a porous carrier. SOLUTION: This catalyst is an exhaust gas purification catalyst produced by depositing alkaline earth metals and titanium as active components in a porous carrier. As the alkaline earth metals, magnesium, calcium, strontium, and barium may be used and in the case strontium is used, especially preferable result can be obtained. As the porous carrier, alumina, silica, etc., may be used and in the case alumina is used, especially preferable result can be obtained. Consequently, a catalyst having low affinity with SO2 and high affinity for NOX can be produced. In other words, an exhaust gas purification catalyst with high SOX resistance and NOX purifying function can be obtained. |
