IMAGE SIGNAL CODING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain efficient coding of an image contour part by eliminating a noise component efficiently with respect to the image signal coding method. SOLUTION: A 1st chain list generated by chain-coding of characteristic amount and position information of a characteristic point of an image signal is separated for each branch point in the list separation stop to generate a unit list (ED27), and a useful list (ED28) is selected based on each attribute of the unit list (ED27) and the useful lists (ED28) are coupled to generate a 2nd chain list (ED29). Thus, noise components of an image contour part are efficiently eliminated and the image contour part is efficiently coded as one edge chain.
