PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain communication of multimedia data between a LAN and an ATM by setting a service quality (QOS) class so as to assemble a data frame into an ATM cell in the case of relaying the data frame from a LAN (local area network) to an ATM(asynchronous transfer mode) network. SOLUTION: A LAN controller 203 of an inter-network connection device 200 receives a data frame from a LAN channel 201. In the case that a call is set to a destination physical address of the data frame, an ATM controller 204 divides the data frame to assembly it into ATM cells and the transfer of data is started through an ATM channel 202. When a call is not set yet, a control section 207 sets a QOS class based on prescribed information. The ATM controller 204 divides the data frame based on the QOS class to assembly ATM cells. When setup is established, the transfer of data is started.
