PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the acceleration of thrombus formation and the impairment of tissue heeling and to improve the property to sustain heparin release by packing a mixture composed of an acidic material to be ion crosslinked by an inorg. salt and heparin into the wall of a porous tube consisting of a high- polymer material, thereby constituting an artificial blood vessel. SOLUTION: This artificial blood vessel is formed of the porous tube consisting of porous elastomer, such as polyurethane, or polyester fibers, etc. The mixture composed of the acidic material, for example alginic acid, to be ion crosslinked by the inorg. salt, for example calcium salt, and the heparin is packed into the wall of such porous tube. This packing and fixing are executed by injecting the mixture composed of the acidic material, the haparin and the inorg. salt into the holes in the wall. There is also a method for chemically fixing the acidic material to the surface within the holes of the tube wall, then ion bonding the heparin by the inorg. salt. As a result, the release of the heparin is sustained over a long period of time. |
