PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method for a magnetic recording medium, which can prevent the occurrence of the flaw (scrach flaw) of the surface of tape, which occurs at the time of polishing. SOLUTION: In this method, the manufacture of a magnetic recording medium is executed by performing the process for forming a magnetic thin film on a nonmagnetic recording base 20 by vacuum deposition and the process for polishing the surface of the magnetic thin film. Here, the process for polishing the surface of the magnetic thin film comprises two polishing means. With respect to the running direction of the nonmagnetic base 20, the running direction of a polishing tape 29 of the polishing means of the first state is in the reverse direction, and the running direction of a polishing tape of the polishing means of the second stage is in the forward direction. Furthermore, the polishing tension of the polishing means of the first stage and the polishing tension of the polishing means of the second stage have the same degree. Furthermore, the polishing-tape feeding speed of the polishing means of the first stage and the polishing-tape feeding speed of the polishing means of the second stage have the same degree. |
