PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily provide uniform and non-defective C2 orientation by giving a rubbing treatment to an alignment film formed on at least one electrode substrate in a temperature set within a particular range. SOLUTION: Electrode substrates 5a and 5b are placed on a heated stage 10 with surfaces having alignment films placed upward, a roller 12 having cloth 11 wound thereon is rotated around a rotary shaft 12a and, while the surfaces of the alignment films are rubbed, the stage 10 is moved 10 an arrow direction. A rubbing direction is reverse to the arrow moving direction of the stage 10. Alternatively, the stage 10 is fixed and the roller 12 is moved in a direction opposite the arrow direction. In stead of heating the stage 10, the roller 12 may be heated or both of the stage 10 and the roller 12 may be heated. In this case, preferably, a temperature for rubbing is set to 50 to 200 deg.C. For practical purposes, 60 to 100 deg.C is preferable. |
