PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a catalyst which does not exhibit catalytic activity at normal temp., enabling a thermosetting resin compsn. to be stored stably for a long term, and exhibits an excellent catalytic activity when heated during molding by selecting a specific phosphonium borate compd. as the catalyst. SOLUTION: This catalyst is a phosphonium borate compd. represented by formula I (wherein R<1> to R<4> are each a monovalent org. group having an arom. or heterocyclic ring or a monovalent aliph. group; and Y<1> to Y<4> are each R<1> provided at least one of them is a group formed by removing a proton from a proton donor selected from among an arom. polycarboxylic acid, an arom. carboxylic acid having at least one acid anhydride group and at least one carboxyl group, a polyphenol compd., and an arom. compd. having at least one carboxyl group and at least one phenolic hydroxyl group) (e.g. a compd. represented by formula II). A thermosetting resin compsn. is prepd. by incorporating the catalyst into a thermosetting resin (pref. an epoxy resin and/or a maleimide resin). |
