PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new polyisocyanate useful for e.g. coating materials, resins or adhesives having weatherability and heat resistance, and bearing isocyanurate structure which is formed by cyclic trimerization of a virtually halogen-free bis(isocyanatomethyl)cyclohexane. SOLUTION: This new polyisocyanate, which has isocyanurate structure formed by cyclic trimerization of a virtually halogen-free bis(isocyanatomethyl) cyclohexane, is useful as a raw material for coating materials, resins, foams, films or adhesives having weatherability and heat resistance. This new polyisocyanate is obtained by partial cyclic trimerization of the isocyanate groups of a virtually halogen-free 1,3-bis(isocyanatomethyl)cyclohexane in the presence of a trimerization catalyst (e.g. tetramethylammonium 2-ethylhexanoate) followed by adding a reaction terminator (e.g. trifluoroacetic acid) to the reaction system and then removing the unreacted bis(isocyanatomethyl)cyclohexane from the system. |
