PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the reduction of false contours of dynamic images by making code conversion so that at least one or more subfields maintain the conditions of display. SOLUTION: A video signal inputted from an input terminal is converted into 8-bit digital data by an A/D conversion section 3, and this data is code- converted into 9-bits by a code conversion section 4. Two frames of the data are stored at the specified position of a frame memory section 5 by a control section 8. The section 5 has two frames of memory and each frame of the inputted data is alternately written into the first frame of memory and the second frame of memory. The bits corresponding to the respective subfields are read out from the memory section 5 during their respective address periods and outputted to a display section 7 through a drive section 6 to cause light emission of the pixels corresponding to the data outputted in the sustaining discharge period. Thus, false contour sections which appear in the case where picture images varying smoothly in the horizontal direction move on a screen in the horizontal direction are mitigated. |
