PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparently natural and smoothed image by detecting the minimum change direction of respective points of an image, selecting one-dimensional data existent in the minimum change direction and performing weighted addition smoothing corresponding to the difference between the image luminance of a concerned point and the luminance of points on the one-dimensional data. SOLUTION: When attention is paid upon one point on the image, prescribed sampling points are taken on eight directions 101 at the concerned point on the image, and change amounts in the respective directions are calculated. The direction to be a minimum value is found out of these change amounts and a minimum change direction 102 is found. The luminance data at a sampling point 103 in the minimum change direction 102 are defined as one-dimensional data to be smoothed. Weighted smoothing 104 corresponding to the difference of luminance in these one-dimensional data to be smoothed is performed and the result is defined as a processing value. Such operating is executed for the respective points. Concerning the points at the ends of the image, special processing such as a method for taking sampling points similar to a central part by judging the link of both the ends of the image or method for outputting a source image or '0' without processing the points at the ends is performed. |
