A volume controlling device of a television includes a remote control signal recognizing circuit 6 for recognizing a channel changing signal outputted from a remote control, a timer circuit 7 for continuously performing counting operation and generating the counted value when the remote control signal recognizing circuit 6 recognizes the channel changing signal, a comparing circuit 10 for judging the counting level according to the timer circuit 7, a memory 14 for storing volume level data selected by a user, and a central processing unit 11 for increasing the volume level in the range of the volume level stored in the memory 14 according to the judged result from the comparing circuit 10. Accordingly, the amplification level for a voice signal is increased by stages when the channel is changed to prevent rapid increase of the voice level outputted through a speaker.
