The element to process a fluid stream, such as an exhaust, has thin and flexible heat-resistant filaments with a coating to adsorb hazardous matter in the flow. The novelty is that the separate filaments are of glass or ceramic fibres. The outer surfaces have functionally active particles, held in place by a bonding agent.
