An epicardiac pacing lead for applying electrical stimulation to the heart of a cardiac surgical patient from an external pacemaker. The pacing lead (11) comprises a flexible cable (13) and a storage means (41) accommodating the cable in a stored condition. The cable (13) can be progressively withdrawn from the storage means (41) during installation of the cable in the body of a patient.
