A procedure for switching the current between successive sections of the stator winding of a linear motor in a transport system has the following features: (a) the travel path (1) has a left and a right stator winding path in sections with individual windings; (b) the left-hand sections are displaced from the right-hand ones; (c) each side has separate power cables; (d) separate substations supply the two cables from each end; (e) the cables are isolated by switches into two sections. Before the vehicle has reached the separating point between two stator sections that are to be switched over, the current in the active section is "controlled downwards" in one of the two substations.
