A magnetism-sensitive powder for diagnostic, therapeutic, or drug transportation purposes, which, even when placed in the body for a long period of time, has excellent properties, that is, causes neither a lowering in sensitivity to magnetism nor elution of an ion, and hence is usable as a safe medical powder. The powder comprises a base particle of a ferromagnetic metal and a coating layer provided on the surface thereof, at least the outside of the coating layer being composed of a bioinactive material. Preferably, the coating layer comprising the bioinactive material comprises a layer of a hydrolyzate of an alkoxide compound.
