An implant consists of two end pieces (1, 2) supported on adjacent vertebrae and an intermediate medium piece (3) joined to one of the end pieces by a thread (4). By turning the medium piece (3), the overall length of the implant may be modified. The end pieces (1, 2) form tubular sleeves (5', 5'') with walls provided with through holes (6), are axially nested into each other with their sleeves (5', 5''), axially slide against each other on the sleeve walls and are secured against rotating relative to each other around the sleeve axis. The thread (4) is located between the medium piece (3) and the end piece (1) joined thereto. The medium piece (3), which can turn in the thread (4), is designed as an axial stop for the other end piece (2).
