A voltage-controlled oscillator comprises two capacitors (220, 320) for setting either one of two signal levels in a first memory unit (100) . A switching element (209, 309) inverts the stored level in response to the potential of each capacitor (220, 230). A further switching member (200, 202, 302) provides for charging each of the capacitors (220, 320) at a speed determined by the input voltage. A second memory element (110, 130) stores either of the two levels and the level stored therein is inverted according to the level stored in the first memory element (100). The VCO can reliably generate an oscillating signal even if after stopping with both capacitors being charged, it is restarted under the same conditions.

|
