The motor vehicle includes a drive motor, a gearbox and an automated torque transfer mechanism. The torque transfer mechanism is operated by a control unit which receives inputs from sensors, e.g. speed or acceleration, and gear position (105) sensors, and a driver operated signal emitter (101) such as an accelerator pedal. The control unit supplies an output signal to an engine control unit (103) which determines the engine torque by comparing (106) a function derived from the sensor inputs which the driver controlled signal.
