PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently absorb the load generated in a lower column shaft by holding the front end in such a manner as to be displaceable in the direction right-angled to the axial line, and providing a column bracket fixed to a car body. SOLUTION: A lower bracket 14 has a guide wall 14e formed of a vertically long elliptic hole broader than a column tube, extending from its extended part 14b to a rotating piece 14c. Since the vertically extended guide wall 14e is formed on the lower bracket 14, an upper column shaft 1 is guided by the guide wall 14e, and surely guided to the upper part. Since the upper column shaft 1 has a damping mechanism having a contraction margin, the load of pushing a steering wheel by an occupant can be damped. The damping mechanism of the upper column shaft 1 is never deformed by the load from a lower column shaft 4, and exclusively damps the load from the steering wheel 1. |
