A fluid tight joint between two metal pipes, using induction welding techniques, is formed by:- (a) depositing a non-corrosive flux, on the inner and outer surfaces of the ends of the respective pipes to be joined, and inserting one pipe into the other, together with a filler material between the inner and outer contacting surfaces of the respective pipe ends; (b) subjecting the joint area to a magnetic field, varying with respective to time, and concentrated at the joint, in order to melt the flux and filler material by induction heating. Also claimed is a system for induction welding, two pipe ends, one partially inserted into the other, to form a fluid-tight joint between the pipes. A heat exchanger, having an inlet header, and an outlet header connected by a number of pipes, welded to the headers by the method and system claimed above is also claimed.
|
