PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain the occurrence of ghost due to development hysteresis and to obtain a copy of image-defect-flee, satisfactory image quality for a long time by causing residual charges in the dielectric layer or resistance layer of a toner carrier to leak electrically, thereby removing them. SOLUTION: A voltage application member 6 is provided downstream from the position where the toner carrier 3 and an image carrier 1 are opposite each other, and upstream from a toner supply member 5. The voltage application member 6 is so arranged as to rotate in contact with the surface of the toner carrier 3, and a specific DC voltage is applied to it from a variable DC power source 30. With the residual charges having in the dielectric layer or resistance layer, the toner carrier 3 rotates in contact with the voltage application member 6. In the part where the toner carrier 3 and voltage application member 6 are in contact with each other, the residual charges in the dielectric layer or voltage application member 6 leak toward the voltage application member 6 and dissipate. Thus, the toner carrier 3 returns to an initial condition. |
