PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently purity the subject compound useful for food raw materials, artificial skins, anticancer agents, etc., at a low cost by simultaneously treating the culture solution of a microorganism producing the water-insoluble glucan, etc., with a specific amount of an oxidizing agent and a hydroxide compound capable of converting the pH of the solution to a basic region. SOLUTION: The culture solution of a microorganism producing a water- insoluble glucan such as lentinan, yeast glucan or cellulose or a microorganism cell-containing solution containing the water-insoluble glucan as a constituting component is simultaneously treated with 0.175-3.5W/W% of an oxidizing agent (e.g. hydrogen peroxide) and a hydroxide compound capable of converting the pH of the solution to 10-12.5 (e.g. sodium hydroxide) to industrially, inexpensively and efficiently purify the objective water-insoluble glucan for food raw materials, artificial skins or paper as natural fibers, and further for antitumor agents, etc. The microorganism content of the culture solution or the microorganism cell-containing solution is 2.0×10<6> to 4.0×10<9> cells/ml. |
