PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the erroneous mounting of a fixing unit by driving the fixing unit, during the operation of a photoreceptor initialization means and inspecting the rising speed of the temp. of the fixing unit. SOLUTION: A paper carrying motor 3 and a high voltage unit 7 are driven and the temp. of a thermistor 6 at the start time is inspected to turn on a heater 5. After that, the presence of a lapse of a specified time, for instance, five seconds is measured. When the specified time lapses, the rising of the temp. is detected by the thermistor 6, to turn off the heater 5 and further, the high voltage unit 7 and the motor 3. Then, the rising speed of the temp. is compared with a normal temperature rising pattern previously stored in a ROM, to detect the fact that the fixing unit 4 is erroneously mounted or not. In other words, when the fixing unit 4 for a 100V machine is mounted in a device for a 200V machine, the rising speed of the temp. is about double a normal temperature rising speed, so that recognition is possible at this time. In the case to the contrary, about half of the rising speed of the temp. is obtained, so that the recognition is possible similarly. |
