PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the color slippage and the color unevenness of a coler image due to the carrying irregularity of a transfer material and to make a device itself compact. SOLUTION: This device is constituted so that image forming units 2(2a-2d) are vertically arranged in parallel, for example and a toner image is successively transferred on the transfer material 3 at the transfer parts of the respective units 2. Besides, the units 2 are respectively provided with carrying and transferring means 5. Then, a distance L on a transfer material carrying path 1 between an entrance-side and an exit-side nip carrying means 6 and 7 is regulated to be shorter than the length S of the material 3 in a carrying direction or the material 3 of the minimum using size (length in the carrying direction is S') is not simultaneously nipped by the carrying means 6 and 7 but nipped across the transfer means 5 of at least the plural units 2. Besides, such operation is applied to the device of a type provided with a transfer material holding and carrying means 8 such as a carrying belt. |
