MAGNIFICATION METHOD FOR DIGITAL IMAGE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnified image with small distortion and fog by keeping sharpness of horizontal, vertical and oblique edges of an original image in the case of magnifying an image. SOLUTION: A change in density between a notice picture element and peripheral picture elements of an image being an object of magnification is detected (S1) and one pattern is specified among basic patterns denoting the relationship between the notice picture element and the peripheral picture elements by comparing the change in the density with a threshold (S2). Then prescribed coefficient data optimum to obtain a density of the magnified picture element in response to the pattern are used for coefficients of a prescribed calculation formula to obtain the density of the picture element after magnification (S3).
