PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an activated carbon-catalyst composite fiber, resistant to coming off of the catalyst component even without using a coagulant, etc., producible at a high productivity and useful for removing toxic substances such as nitrogen oxides by blending an activated carbon fiber with a fiber having catalytic activity. SOLUTION: This activated carbon-catalyst composite fiber is obtained by blending (A) an activated carbon fiber (specific surface area is preferably 700-2000m<2> /g) of acrylonitrile, etc., with (B) a fiber having catalytic activity by itself whose base material is a metal (oxide) of silicon, aluminum, etc., or a fiber carrying one or more kinds selected from a transition metal (oxide) and a typical metal oxide each having catalytic activity. The obtained fiber is suitable as an environment cleaning catalyst for removing toxic materials such as a volatile organic compound. Further, a compounding ratio of the component A and the component B, components A/B, is preferably in the range of 0.1-10 by weight. |
