PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water-resistant polyvinyl alcohol compsn. which gives an aq. soln. having long pot life, is excellent in workability, and exhibits excellent heat resistance either when dried at low temps. or when thermally treated by compounding specified amts. of a specific PVA resin and a specific epoxy compd. SOLUTION: This compsn. comprises 100 pts.wt. PVA resin which is produced by, e.g. partly or wholly saponifying a copolymer of a vinyl ester monomer (e.g. vinyl acetate) and a vinyl monomer having at least one functional group selected from among amino, formamido, carbamate, and imido groups (e.g. N-vinylformamide) and contains 0.1-50mol%, pref. 2-20mol%, amino groups in the molecule and 0.1-100 pts.wt. compd. having at least two epoxy groups in the molecule (e.g. ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether). |
