The mortar consists of two or more tubes (4, 5) mounted in a single cradle (6) which can turn about horizontal pivots on a support (17) adapted for lateral aiming.Stays (21) of adjustable length connect the support to the mortar tubes, each of which is equipped with a separate and removable breech (12, 13) with its own firing mechanism. The firing mechanisms can be coupled to fire all the tubes at once. The tubes can be aimed separately from their parallel positions to give a spread of mortar bombs, and they can incorporate linked sensors which allow them to be fired in sequence.The weapon can use tubes made from existing standard components, but the support and breeches are new. USE/ADVANTAGE - Suitable for mounting on armoured vehicle for rapid change of launch position. |
