The machine for grinding local sections of a rail sleeper has a self-propelled vehicle and a grinding carriage. During the grinding operation, the vehicle is fixed with respect to the rail while the carriage is displaced forwards and backwards along the rail. The grinding carriage is supplied with electric energy via an electric cable, and has a grinding unit including a motor which draws a lapidary grinder rotatably, and an actuating device which moves relative to the vehicle.
