The variable slope tier for a theatre comprises support legs for the tiers (1) constituted by different length telescopic columns. Longest internal (17) and short external columns are able to alternatively serve as supports for the tiers and enable them to adopt two different slopes. This is achieved either by a lifting mechanism (5), in the case of the short columns, or directly, in the case of the long columns which are fixed to the tiers. The short columns are fixed by cross members so as to form a rigid assembly and a single unit.
