PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the battery capacity of alkali metal/carbon by optimizing the weight of carbon per volume standard. SOLUTION: A fined carbon having respective prescribed density in coke and graphite states is used for anode. When the fined carbon is formed of coke, it has an X-ray density of at least 2.00g/cm<3> , a sealed porosity of 5% or less, and open porosity of 47% or less. The X-ray density and sealed porosity are properties related to individual carbon particles, and the open porosity is that related to inter-particle, and has a relation with charging ratio. When the fined carbon is formed of graphite, it has an X-ray density of at least 2.20g/cm<3> , a sealed porosity of 5% or less, and an open porosity of 25% or less. By use of such a fined carbon, a battery having a capacity improved on the basis of carbon volume can be provided. |
