The procedure for structuring an image provides analysis of the apparent movement and depth of a small sized object which moves with a small apparent speed. A multi-model procedure is used comprising two levels of models. The first level includes the local agglomeration of pixels and the second level includes global agglomeration of pixels arranged in region. Different processes are applied to the homogeneous grey level regions of the image and the textures regions in levels of grey. Calculations are effected following an initialisation of a space-time intensity gradient derived at two instants. Referring to two instants which are as close together as possible, movements between the two images are detected, and this process is re-iterated.
