PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To select a code-kind to be read and perform an optimum read process, according to the selection by putting code reading means in the same case and placing one of the code reading means in operation according to the specified code kind. SOLUTION: A line CCD 3 and an area CCD 7 are put in the frame 2 of the code reader 1. When a code is read out of a label, a bar code is set as a code-kind A, and a matrix code is set as a code kind-B, in advance. Then a manual trigger operation part 22 is placed in on-operation continuously for longer than a prescribed time to drive the system of the line CCD 3, thereby repeatedly reading the bar code. On the other hand when the manual trigger operation part 22 is released at less the prescribed time, the system of the area CCD 7 is driven to read the matrix code. Namely, the system of the line CCD 3 or CCD 7 is selected, according to the continuance of the on-operation of the operation part 22. |
