PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear motor for obtaining a drive force with improved balance without generating a rotary moment even if an object is driven in cantilever type. SOLUTION: A pair of magnets 12 and 12 are provided on both surfaces 11a and 11b of a center yoke 11 of a linear motor 10. A coil 13 is passed through the center yoke 11 and each magnet 12. A side yoke 14 is formed while its section is in U shape, and the center yoke 11 is arranged inside. A drive force in forward direction is generated between a pair of first gaps G1 and G1 between the side yoke 14 and each magnet 12, and a drive force in negative direction is generated between second gaps G2 between the side yoke 14 and the center yoke 12. F1×L2 =F2×(L1 +L2 ) is established, where drive forces in positive and negative directions generated between the first and second gaps G1 and G2 are F1 and F2 , distance between the generated positions of the drive forces F1 and F2 is L1 , and distance between the drive force F1 in positive direction and the gravity of an object 3B to be driven is L2 .
